What is an apostille?
An apostille is a certificate attached to an Indian document by the Ministry of External Affairs confirming it is genuine, recognised by all countries party to the Hague Apostille Convention. Countries outside that convention require embassy attestation instead, which is a different and usually longer process.

Applicants whose destination country requires legalised academic or personal documents, including Germany and several others.
How do I get an apostille?
- Get the document authenticated at state level first, where required
- Submit to MEA through an authorised agency; MEA does not accept walk-ins
- Allow one to three weeks, longer if state authentication is needed first
