Choosing

Where Indian students actually go, and what each destination asks for

The short answer

The US, Canada, the UK and Australia take the largest share of Indian applicants, with Ireland, Germany and New Zealand growing. They do not ask for the same document: the US and Canada want a statement of purpose, the UK and Ireland a personal statement, Germany a one-page Motivationsschreiben, and Australia both a university statement and a separate visa statement.

What each destination actually asks for

This is the part applicants get wrong before they get anything else wrong, and it costs whole applications.

The document each destination expects, and its usual length.

Choosing on something other than admission odds

Cost of evidence differs as much as tuition. Germany charges little tuition but requires a blocked account and an APS certificate; Canada requires a GIC and, now, a provincial attestation letter; the UK charges an immigration health surcharge upfront per year of visa.

Post-study work rights differ and change often, and they are the thing most worth checking against the official source rather than an article, because they move faster than any site can track.

Where the Kerala cohort actually goes

Nursing and allied health overwhelmingly to the UK and Ireland; engineering and computing to Canada, Germany and Ireland; commerce and management to the UK and Australia. The district pages describe each local market in more detail.

Related questions

Which country is easiest to get into from India?

Ease of admission and ease of visa are different questions, and the second refuses more people. A country with accessible admission but a demanding permit process is not the easy option it appears to be, which is why programme fit and evidenced funds matter more than the destination's reputation for accepting applicants.
