Blocked Account

Also called Sperrkonto
What is a blocked account?
A blocked account is a German bank account holding a fixed sum that a student can only withdraw in monthly instalments, used to prove to the visa authority that you can support yourself. The required amount is set annually by the German government and is the standard route for Indian students to satisfy the proof-of-funds requirement.

Who needs a blocked account?
Most Indian applicants for a German student visa.
Common mistakes
- Funding it later than the visa appointment, which needs the confirmation in hand
- Assuming the required figure is the same as last year's; it is revised
