Deferral

Close-up of a business professional reviewing an application form at a desk.

What is a deferral?

A deferral is a university's agreement to move your admission to a later intake, usually the next one. Policies vary: some institutions grant it once as a matter of routine, others require a reason, and a scholarship attached to the original offer often does not carry over.

Reviewed

Who needs a deferral?

Applicants whose funding, documents or visa will not be ready in time for the intake they were admitted to.

Common mistakes

  • Assuming the scholarship defers with the offer
  • Requesting after the deposit deadline rather than before
